Film Poster Planning - 'Poster 2'

Initial Idea:

Here are the two poster ideas of which we have come up with in our group. As previously stated, we were planning on creating 3 different posters between us. This would act as a series of 'teaser' posters which we have previously researched and find a fascinating and successful technique. The top image focuses solely on the eye area - the intense glare directed towards the viewer of the poster creates a sinister connection between the reader and the character.
However, we have decided to go for idea number two, positioned directly below.
After researching the Les Miserables series of poster artwork, we wanted to try and recreate a similar series. There for we think it best that the poster depicting the two characters together and the individual set ups should be simple/arty close ups. This allows all of the main focus to fall upon the characters who themselves who are vital throughout the entire narrative. This poster idea displays the femme fatale slightly off frame creating an air of mystery and disorientation. She is using the direct mode of address to create an instant connection to the viewer of said poster.
The next step in this proccess is to go from a drawn plan and bring the idea to life. We will use both outdoor locations (present in our plot) as well as experimenting with the photographic studio and lights at our school to create visually appealing images that could work for our film poster.

Editing

After picking some of our favourite shots from the shoot, it was time to pick the image that would ultimately be the face of our poster. We made the unanamous decision that we would choose the close up image of our Femme Fatale displayed below on the right hand side. I like this image in particular as i feel it possesses similarities to the original 'Les Miserables' poster depicting the young girl i researched previously. The close up nature of the shot as well as the direct mode of address used allows the audience to feel an instant connection with the character. The intense, thoughtful stare suggests the character to be intellectual and mysterious. Her hair is tossled and wild, representing her unpredictable nature. She also looks directly into the lens with her pouted lips fractionally open in a provocative manner - representing her seductive allure. The fact that part of her face is abscent from the frame adds further to the ambivilance and mystery to her character. We chose to use aq simple, brick wall backdrop which injects the air of urban, city life that is present in our film, as well as Film Noir as a genre. The simple pattern created gives a stylish effect, but takes no focus away from the main subject of the piece. As the characters in our film are vital and of main importance to our plot, we feel the posters should focus solely on them as individuals, who ring different elements to the film.
Now we had our photo, i was ble to develop this and really bring it to life as a visual piece of artwork. We did this by editing and altering the image on Adobe Photo-shop.
The Diagram below displays the steps i went through to edit the image to our liking in order to use it as the main feature: Our poster:-
