Film Title Font Styles

Drawing ever closer to finalising our film, We decided to create a font/style for our final movie title. This title would be used both at the start of our film and be displayed on both Ancillary tasks ( Film magazine review & film poster). We wanted a font that would suit the style of our film and its genre.
We therefore went onto various font sites and search for a fit. I came across these 4 fonts and narrowed the search down to a final winner. I like the top font as the scratched style reminded me of a brick work surface and i feel this fitted well with our urban street theme. However, the font itsself looked a bit too unnatural and was not as suitable for the film noir genre.
The bottom font had the same, worn effect that embodied the rough, on edge atmosphere of the narrative, but was not quite right for the genre.
The third font took a slightly different style, almost like a spray painted stencil. Although visually pleasing this font was too modern for our old fashioned, authentic noir piece.
However we feel very pleased with the second font on the page. We like the dents and dangerous edge of the font but also feel the serif nature and solid stature allows the font to remain sophisticated and suitable for our noir film.

Experimentation:-

We wanted to experiment with the layout and structure of the title. The name, 'Dead Man Running' suggests an epic, fast paced thrilling narrative which we wanted to convey within the style of the text. Editing on Microsoft Word, we altered the title to fall upon 3 lines under eachother, They act in a step formation creating a sense of the text moving or running across the page. The orginal fonts that we created were black in colour, however we wanted the backdrop to be black so needed to alter the colour of the font in order for it to contrast and stand out on the frame. We therefore decided to use both white and red - which possess connotations of love, blood and death. The devil-like colourings along with the contrasting white colouring work together well and create a visually striking title.
